choose a static residential proxy

Choosing a static residential proxy: six questions to ask first

Products under the same "static residential" label vary wildly. Ask these six questions before you pay and most refund arguments never happen.

1. Is it genuinely dedicated

This is the easiest one for a vendor to skate past. Some "static residential" offerings put several customers on one IP and simply give each of them stable credentials. When someone else on that IP misbehaves, your accounts wear it.

Ask directly: during my lease, is this IP assigned to me and nobody else? If they cannot answer, treat it as shared.

2. Where the IP really resolves

Once you have an IP, look it up yourself. Check whether the ASN says ISP or IDC, and whether the geolocation matches what was advertised. An IP sold as one US city and landing in another state is not rare.

Check several databases. They refresh on different schedules, so cross-referencing is more reliable than trusting one.

3. Lease granularity and renewal rules

Monthly-only minimums make experimenting expensive. What happens at expiry matters more: is the IP reclaimed immediately or held for you, and does renewing get you the same IP back.

For account work, losing the original IP on renewal usually means starting that account over. Confirm this before ordering, not after.

4. Can you get the region you need

Country coverage is table stakes; the real differences are inventory depth and city granularity. How many IPs are available in your country right now, and can you pin a city? That should be visible on the order page rather than discovered as an out-of-stock error after payment.

5. Protocols and authentication

  • Both HTTP and SOCKS5, or only one of them
  • Username/password auth, IP allowlisting, or both
  • How many allowlist entries you get and how long changes take to apply

6. Can you see usage and expiry

Routinely overlooked, and it decides whether you find out about a dead job from a dashboard or from a customer. Expiry date, days remaining, and order status should be one glance away, not tracked in your own spreadsheet.

NextProxy bills static residential per 30-day lease, writes the expiry on the order, and syncs inventory and order status live in the console.
